Luuwit View Park

Portland, OR

A new park in an under-served neighborhood offers gathering and recreational opportunities for all ages and abilities under the gaze of Mount St. Helens.

About this Project

Spread on 16 acres adjacent to Shaver Elementary School in NE Portland, this new park features a soccer field and basketball court, accessible play and picnic areas, a sculptural public shelter, community gardens, a fenced off-leash dog area and parking. A multi-use paved trail loops around the entire site with public art and bilingual interpretive signage. The design preserve views of Mount St Helens (called Luuwit by Native Tribes) and reflects the area’s farming and history and context. Stormwater is managed on-site through the use of several swales and infiltration facilities.
