Pedestrian Pathway Improvements

Portland, OR

Washington County has embarked on a multi-phase process to improve public safety and provide connections to nearby schools and neighborhoods on county streets.

About this Project

3J was commissioned to design sidewalks on 90th Ave between Leahy Road and Oak Street and on 113th Ave between Anderson Street/Lost Park Drive and Rainmont Road. These sections of roads lack consistent pedestrian facilities, forcing pedestrians to walk in the vehicle travel lane.

After analysis of the site along 90th Ave, the team determined that the most cost effective and functional solution adds a sidewalk along the west side of 90th Ave between Leahy Road/Taylor Street and Stark Street, then crosses 90th at Stark to the east side and continues up to Oak Street. For 113th Avenue, the team designed sidewalks to fill several gaps along the west side of the road

Extensive community outreach for both projects solicited input and received strong support for the proposed solutions. The projects are funded through the URMD Safety Improvement Program and the Minor Betterments Program. Both roadways remained open during construction.
