Spanning 450 acres between Kūihelani Highway and Maui Veterans Highway, this project generates renewable energy to power 27,000 homes.
This 450-acre solar and storage project in Central Maui is the largest in Hawai’i, supplying 27,000 homes on the island of Mau’i with renewable energy. The 240 MWh containerized lithium-ion battery energy storage system (BESS) feeds into the Hawaiian Electric (HECO) grid, providing power to customers. 3J provided civil engineering services to design improvements for the new 60 MW-AC ground mount solar plant. The project was completed in the fall of 2024, with a grand opening that included a blessing ceremony and a declaration from the Mayor, proclaiming September 6th, 2024 as “Energy Resiliency Day.”
