3J helped the City of Cornelius develop a new community-wide Vision Statement and Action Plan that guided upcoming or ongoing City programs and planning efforts.
3J assisted the City of Cornelius in developing a 2045 Vision and Action Plan. This process began with convening a Cornelius Vision Committee that represented broad community interests, as well as local leaders and City partners. Extensive outreach was conducted throughout the summer and fall of 2023 to understand the issues, opportunities and challenges that Cornelius faced. The process capitalized on existing City mechanisms for communication and local events and activities to reach a diverse cross-section of the community, encourage high-quality conversations, and generate excitement about the future of Cornelius. An emphasis on reaching Cornelius’ Spanish-speaking community was made through translation of materials, providing interpretation services, hosting focus groups at local churches, and partnering with Centro Cultural at events and activities. The process touched nearly 1,000 community members since summer 2023.
Community Engagement Highlights:
The project resulted in a new community-wide Vision Statement and Action Plan that will guide upcoming or ongoing City programs and planning efforts, such as a Comprehensive Plan Update, Parks Master Plan, Farmers’ Market & Plaza construction project, Anti-Displacement Strategy, Signage and Wayfinding Program, and a Cultural District Designation, among others.
