Civil Engineer (Water Resources)

Responsibilities

In this role, you will work directly with Team Leaders, Project Managers, or Principals on various projects. Duties will include hydrologic and hydraulic analysis and modeling; developing conceptual-level alternatives and recommended improvements; conducting detailed stormwater collection systems modeling and design; collecting and presenting data and results in reports and memos; preparing design calculations and technical reports; assisting in water resources permitting efforts; and preparing engineering plans for construction. Additionally, you will perform QA/QC reviews on water resource related deliverables.

Projects include: low impact designs, residential subdivisions, commercial sites, roadway drainage, master planning, urban storm water retrofits, storm water treatment, hydraulic analyses (pipes and open channel), and flood hazard mitigation. This position interacts closely with 3J’s civil engineering design teams working on multiple projects at one time.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Registered Civil Engineer in the State of Oregon.
  • 5+ years of design experience with a variety of storm water management, residential, commercial, and transportation design projects.
  • Clear understanding of design standards for various jurisdictions and agencies in the Portland metro area, as well as experience in the land use entitlement process.
  • Exceptional technical capabilities, organizational skills, and problem-solving ability.
  • Clear oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word.
  • Ability to quickly learn new programs to perform other design tasks.
  • Desire to work hard and produce high quality designs.

Desired experience, skills, and registrations

  • Experience and/or studies in hydrology, Low Impact Development (LID), water quality, stormwater treatment best management practices.
  • Experience with XPSWMM/XPSTORM, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, and HEC-1
