Land Use Planner/ Urban Designer

Job Summary

In this role, you will work directly for a Team Leader or Project Manager on various projects. You will work as a member of the Community Planning team with experienced land use planners, urban designers, and other professionals providing long-range and current planning services. A successful candidate is self-motivated, collaborative, detail-oriented, responsible and creative.

Desired Qualifications

Candidates must exhibit excellent verbal, written and web-based communication skills, and familiarity with Oregon and Washington’s land use planning programs. Graduate degree in planning or similar field preferred. Multicultural and multilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Geography, or related field or equivalent work experience is required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including report writing, land use permit applications and presentations
  • Experience interpreting and applying comprehensive plans and development codes
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering construction plans
  • Knowledge of Oregon’s Statewide Planning System
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, working with multiple project managers
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proficient with Microsoft and Adobe Creative Suites
  • Proficient with BlueBeam Revu a plus
  • Proficient with ArcGIS and AutoCad/Civil 3D a plus
  • Graphic design skills desired, but not required

Job Functions & Responsibilities

This full-time position will provide support for site development projects by applying land use policy and regulations and managing the preparation of land use entitlement documents. Working with a Senior Urban Designer, responsibilities will include:

  • Performing timely and accurate property, zoning, and utility research to ensure compliance with land use regulations
  • Preparing conceptual site plans for a variety of development types (residential subdivisions to commercial site layouts)
  • Coordinating with clients on project data and scheduling
  • Preparing, organizing, coordinating with project team members
  • Assisting with the preparation and submittal of high-quality applications for land use permits and entitlements covering a diverse range of projects
  • Coordinating pre-application conferences as necessary
  • Scheduling and participating in neighborhood meetings
  • Effectively and efficiently coordinating with in-house engineering co-workers, permitting agency staff, and other project team members
  • Creating, organizing, and maintaining project schedules, defining critical paths, and tracking milestone dates
  • Developing and maintaining effective positive working relationships with co-workers, clients, permitting agency staff, and other project team members
  • Completing quality work on time and within budgets
